CLASS TYPES

All our workouts are 55 minutes. We don’t believe in you spending more time working out, just more intensity whilst you are doing it.

The Essential (Beginners) Reformer Pilates Class

If you’re new to Reformer Pilates, but not Pilates, or haven’t exercised for a while, then this is the class for you. While it’s still a workout, we’ll also be focusing on getting you familiar with the Reformer Machine and on practising the techniques you’ll need to isolate muscle groups and activate them correctly.

Whilst a basic level of fitness is helpful, it is not imperative. Essential Classes are open to everyone and they’re the perfect introduction to Reformer Pilates.

You will get hot, so wear clothes that allow you to move easily and stay cool. You won’t need shoes – you can train in bare feet.

If it’s your first class, you should make sure you arrive at least 10 minutes early. This is to allow you enough time to complete our health form and meet the instructor.

We recommend that you attend at least 4 essential classes before trying the Dynamic classes. It is important to get your form right (breathing, core engagement and neutral) before you increase the intensity.

Mixed Ability Reformer Pilates Class

All abilities are welcome to attend the classes, even complete beginners. If there is a complete beginner in the class, the class will be tailored around them. But, the instructor will always make sure that everyone is having a challenging workout and getting the most from the 55 minutes.

The Dynamic Reformer Pilates Class

A definite ‘change-up’ from our beginner classes, with the emphasis firmly on effort, focus and results.

To book this class you should be comfortable with the Reformer Machine, understand how the core muscles work, and be able to activate them correctly. If you’ve already seen some improvement in your core strength and flexibility, you’re ready to take it to the next level and this is the class for you.

The class is faster and more intense. You can expect significantly more variety – there are literally hundreds of exercises for your instructor to take you through. On average, you’ll work through a range of exercises, all more challenging than the Essential class.

The routines are duration based, and you’ll work through to fatigue (the point where you can’t do any more) on each one.

At each level, you’ll quickly see new levels of core strength, flexibility, and general fitness. Your posture will improve; you’ll stand taller and straighter, and your physique will become leaner and more toned.

Dynamic Cardio Power

These classes will have the additional challenge of the dynamic class, but, we will look to shorten those muscles, and use the machine like a weight. We fuse elements of traditional reformer pilates with cardio and endurance training. We look to give you very little down time and plenty of challenging moves on and off the reformer. All to get your heart truly beating and muscles aching. You should have done at least 4-6 beginner or mixed ability classes before attempting these.

Barre Fitness

The barre is used as a prop to balance while doing exercises that focus on isometric strength training (holding your body still while you contract a specific set of muscles) combined with high reps of small range-of-motion movements. Also, don’t be surprised if your class incorporates light handheld weights to bring the burn during all those reps, as well as mats for targeted core work.

Barre implements sequences of ballet and Pilates moves giving you a strong cardio workout, and whole body one too. The classes integrate the fat-burning element with muscle-shaping dynamic exercises to quickly and safely reshapes the entire body. This non-impact workout implements both the ballet barre and the mat exercises to target all major muscle groups. Like reformer, it will give you a whole body workout. The result is the recognizable Barre body, featuring sculpted arms, flat abs, a lifted seat, and elongated thighs. Each strengthening section of the workout is followed by a stretching section to create long, lean muscle without bulk. This is a challenging class that requires focus and precision for maximum results.

Unlike reformer, the major benefits of barre are increased flexibility. Like all pilates, it will improve posture, muscle definition and help tone all over. Plus, women at just about any fitness level can sign up for a class. Barre classes are fine for pregnant women because they’re not high impact. They may even help with imbalance (a common issue during pregnancy due to that growing belly) and stability.
